Kitchen Associate

San Ramon

Kitchen Associate / Line Cook / Prep Cook

Compensation: $20.00/hour base wage plus pooled tips averaging approximately $5.00+ per hour, bringing typical total hourly earnings to roughly $25.00+ per hour depending on business volume, shift mix, and location performance.

Fieldwork Brewing Company is seeking dependable, motivated, and detail-oriented Kitchen Associates to join our San Ramon team. This role is ideal for cooks who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-driven kitchen and take pride in executing high-quality food with consistency, urgency, and care. Whether your background is in line cooking, prep, pizza, pantry, or general back-of-house operations, this position offers the opportunity to build skills, contribute to a high-performing kitchen, and grow within a hospitality-focused company.

Kitchen Associates are responsible for supporting daily food production and service across all areas of the kitchen. This includes preparing ingredients, executing menu items to recipe and plating standards, maintaining food safety and sanitation practices, stocking and organizing stations, and working collaboratively with the rest of the kitchen team to deliver a smooth and consistent guest experience. Successful candidates are organized, coachable, efficient under pressure, and committed to maintaining a clean and professional work environment.

In addition to base pay, this role participates in Fieldwork’s tip pool, which can add approximately $5.00 or more per hour to overall earnings. For many team members, that means total compensation lands closer to $25.00+ per hour. This is an important part of the role’s earning potential and reflects the team-based nature of our hospitality model.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and execute menu items with consistency, urgency, and attention to quality
  • Support all aspects of kitchen production, including prep, line execution, pizza assembly, station setup, stocking, and breakdown
  • Follow recipes, portioning, plating, and presentation standards to ensure food quality and consistency
  • Assist with ingredient prep including washing, cutting, portioning, labeling, dating, and organizing product
  • Work cleanly and efficiently during service while maintaining a strong sense of pace and teamwork
  • Set up, maintain, and close stations properly for each shift
  • Monitor product levels throughout service and communicate prep or restock needs proactively
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standards
  • Wash dishes, utensils, tools, and equipment as needed and contribute to overall kitchen cleanliness
  • Support opening and closing cleaning tasks, including floors, surfaces, storage areas, and equipment
  • Receive feedback and direction from kitchen leadership and apply coaching consistently
  • Help maintain a positive, respectful, and accountable back-of-house culture

What We’re Looking For

  • Prior kitchen, prep, line cook, pizza, or food service experience is preferred, but we’re open to training the right candidate with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong sense of urgency, reliability, and personal accountability
  • Ability to multitask and shift between prep, service, and cleaning responsibilities throughout the day
  • Commitment to food quality, cleanliness, and teamwork
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing physically active work
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely navigate a busy kitchen environment

Why This Role Can Be a Strong Opportunity

This position offers more than a flat hourly wage. Kitchen Associates are included in a pooled tip structure, which typically adds around $5.00+ per hour to earnings. For candidates comparing back-of-house opportunities, that means this role often pays closer to $25.00+ per hour in total compensation, while also offering the chance to work in a polished, team-oriented kitchen with advancement opportunities over time.
