Manager on Duty – Back of House
Compensation: $24.00/hour base wage plus pooled tips
Fieldwork Brewing Company is seeking a dependable, motivated, and detail-oriented BOH Manager On Duty to join our San Ramon team. This role is ideal for cooks who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-driven kitchen and take pride in executing high-quality food with consistency, urgency, and care. Whether your background is in line cooking, prep, pizza, pantry, or general back-of-house operations, this position offers the opportunity to build skills, contribute to a high-performing kitchen, and grow within a hospitality-focused company.
The Manager on Duty (MOD) position performs various duties to ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently for service to our guests. The position also performs responsibilities including, but not limited to, kitchen management, equipment management, labor controls, and staff guidance. This position reports to the GM/Kitchen Manager/Regional Kitchen Manager.
What You’ll Do
- Assist Kitchen Manager with all daily tasks
- Knows and understands food ingredients and recipes
- Writes prep lists and helps line cooks work efficiently
- Understands and maintains high food quality standards
- Assists the chef with food purchases and inventory
- Has the ability to see areas of improvement within the kitchen and with staff and helps find solutions
- Understands and follows all kitchen procedures
- Maintains a high level of organization and cleanliness
- Fields questions and solves problems regarding kitchen matters
- Is efficient with time management. Helps employees keep to break times and manage hours worked
- Control labor percentage to meet taproom targets by managing the flow of service and directing line cooks in an efficient manner
- Work with Taproom management team to comply with SOPs
- Understands safety protocols and follows procedures in case of an emergency
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer service.
- Execute high-level training and management of new and existing line cooks/dishwashers
- Present inspiring and professional leadership skills by leading by example
- Provide positive leadership and coaching to staff
- Aids in the upkeep of kitchen equipment and reports any repairs needed to GM and regional management team.
- Maintain Oven/Fridge/Freezer/Fryers according to SOPs
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions

- Full-time schedule commitment with adequate availability
- Prior kitchen, prep, line cook, pizza, or food service experience is preferred, but we’re open to training the right candidate with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment
- Strong sense of urgency, reliability, and personal accountability
- Ability to multitask and shift between prep, service, and cleaning responsibilities throughout the day
- Commitment to food quality, cleanliness, and teamwork
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing physically active work
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely navigate a busy kitchen environment
